Pedestal Support SystemsPedestal paver systems for building elevated decks
Quickly and easily build elevated decks using pavers, wood tiles or steel grating over sloping or uneven substrates without the need to construct expensive supporting structures of sleepers or bearers.
For building decks over pipes, cables or service ducts and for constructing perfectly horizontal rooftop decks with modular paving slabs, pedestal support systems are without peer. These deck supports can be used in such an exceptionally broad range of applications – elevated decks, rooftop decks, balconies, patios, urban ‘parklets‘, plaza decks, rooftop terraces, water features and general landscaping. Although most commonly used to support unit pavers – porcelain, concrete, stone or structural wood tiles – they can also support wood bearers to construct traditional wood plank decks.
For elevated decks using modular pavers, the pavers are supported at each corner only, although additional pedestals can be added under the center or midway along the edge of a paver, depending on the paver size and anticipated loading.
Typically, at the very lowest elevations (up to about 1 1/2″), fixed height support pads are used to support the pavers, with the pads placed under each corner of the paver. The lowest height pads will provide a ground clearance of just 1/4″. Pads can be stacked on top of each other to build up their height over sloping ground to the point where adjustable height pedestals can be used.
Eterno Adjustable Pedestal Support System
Architrex exclusively supplies the Eterno pedestal paver system. These versatile pedestals can be used with any structural grade paver – porcelain, concrete, stone or wood. Eterno screwjack style pedestals are one of the most innovative decking support systems available with a range of unique features that not only provide superior performance, but enable faster and easier installation for all pedestal supported paver applications.
Two models of Eterno adjustable height pedestals are supplied by Architrex – SE Series and NM ‘Maxi’ Series. What’s the difference?
- incorporates exclusive self leveling heads which automatically provide slope compensation up to 5%
- designed for quicker and easier installation especially on substrates with variable slope
- ideal for deck elevations up to 21.75″
- fixed head design with add on shims providing slope compensation
- best option for higher elevations due to extra wide diam. (4 1/2″) screwed columns and sturdy extension elements
- can be used for deck elevations up to 39″
- lower cost – up to 22% lower in cost than SE Series
- only 4 pedestals cover the range 1.125″ to 6.5″ c.f. 5 pedestals for SE Series
Both series of adjustable decking supports feature wide 6″ diam. heads with soft rubber inserts for shock and sound absorption, inbuilt spacer tabs which simply snap off where not required, wide, flat 8″ diam. bases with scored lines to assist in cutting and the ability to make micro height adjustments even after installation, using the special height adjustment tool.
